Frequently Asked Questions about BYMUN
What is MUN?
Model United Nations, also known as Model UN or MUN, is a platform for students to role-play delegates in the United Nations and simulate UN committees, through which they will be able to discuss pertinent world issues and enhance their awareness as a global citizen.
What do delegates have to prepare beforehand?
Delegates should look up some background of the country that he/she is representing, eg. the type of government system & size of the population. In addition, delegates should be clear on the position of the country that they are representing. They should also read through the resources ie. study guides. Once done, delegates should compile all their research for easy reference during the conference or during the writing of the position paper.
A gentle reminder that delegates should have turned in their position paper before coming for BYMUN.
How do I turn in my position paper?
Delegates should email their position papers to the respective council emails that can be found under the respective council study guides. The deadline for submission of position papers is 23 Feb 2024.
What awards will be given out?
In each council, there will be 1 Best Delegate, 1 Outstanding Delegate, 1 Honourable Mention, 1 Best Position Paper, and Verbal Commendation based on Chairs' discretion. For Press Corps, in addition to the above awards, there will be 1 Best News Article (English) and 1 Best News Article (Chinese). As for the overall delegation, 1 Best Delegation and 1 Outstanding Delegation award will be given out.
