Press Corps
While new media increasingly dominates global communication, traditional Press remains ever crucial to public knowledge and opinion of global issues. The pursuit of truth now often clashes with the pursuit of viewership through public sensation and interference from third-parties, thus today’s news media struggle to preserve editorial independence whilst ensuring economic survival. The ubiquitous use of Artificial and Generative Intelligence causes originality and creativity as journalistic values to become increasingly relevant and precious.
By engaging in council sessions and reporting on the happenings, delegates are able to dive headfirst into the world of reportage, and develop an understanding of the global journalistic landscape, honing their writing craft. Meanwhile, delegates can better understand the crucial role journalism plays in the world of international politics, law and governance by shedding light on important matters and ensuring the transparency of paramount decision-making, and holding countries accountable, ensuring productivity and responsibility.

Meet The Chairs

Jasper Zhang
Jasper is a Year 1 Bicultural Studies Programme Scholar at Hwa Chong Institution, which often makes her question decisions made by world leaders and by herself. In her free time, she enjoys reading anything ranging from short stories by O Henry and F. Scott Fitzgerald to the A court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR) series, watching Gossip Girls, and listening to Taylor Swift. She is always willing to converse on anything really, including current affairs, culture, world politics, and literature. Jasper hopes that delegates will truly enjoy their BYMUN experience as well as being a part of the Press council as she once had, and looks forward to engaging with everyone!

Cheryl Lim
In her free time, she either lies on the sofa and rewatches random F1 races to make her subscription worth or attempt to master Dutch with a mixture of Bilibili videos and Duolingo. As a former-delegate-now-chair of BYMUN, Cheryl hopes all Press delegates take home their own unique experience and gain new perspectives to see the world through.

Wang Xinrui
Xinrui does not enjoy writing self introductions, thus this shall not be and is not a comprehensive and fair reflection of her character. However, she does enjoy theatre, taking it as an academic subject, and of course, the average humanities hobbies such as reading and writing. She hopes delegates will be rather stressed and obtain the joy from being time pressed, time bound and time stricken in Press, as she believes love is for the ones who love the work.

Chloe Teh
Chloe is a Secondary 4 student taking the Triple Science subject combination, but despite that, she enjoys a wide range of humanities-related activities such as reading and expressing herself through short stories and poetry. In her free time, she can often be found rollerblading or immersing herself in crime movies that explore the complexities of human nature. Always open to meaningful conversations — be it current affairs or the various TV series — Chloe hopes that all delegates will have a fulfilling and memorable experience at BYMUN 2026. She looks forward to gaining new experiences and broadening her perspectives on the world and journalism, especially through her role in the Press Council.
