UNEA is the world’s highest-level decision-making body for environmental matters, involving 193 member states. As such, UNEA bears the responsibility of enhancing progress in the global movement towards sustainability and green development.

OVERVIEW

Delegates will be discussing the issue of reducing carbon dependency in global economies. Through council debates, delegates will deepen their understanding on this issue through the practice of diplomacy in balancing and negotiating for different goals and interests. We look forward to seeing everyone participating actively in debates!

Meet The Chairs

Foo Yong Lee Reanne

Reanne is a Secondary 4 student currently studying in Nanyang Girls’ High School. In honour of chairing an environmental council, she and her co-chairs would like to compare themselves to the symbiotic relationship “The Three Sisters” plants share. Reanne, as represented by squash, will make sure to look out for delegates just as how squash provides ground cover for beans and corn! In the similar spirit of loving mother nature, Reanne feels compelled to mention her switch from air conditioning to fans and her dedication to switching off the lights and fan before she leaves a room!! (#environmentalism) Reanne would too like to proudly proclaim her vehement love for dogs. Nonetheless, she hopes that delegates will enjoy a time as sweet as squash soup at BYMUN 2024!

Yap Leia

Leia is a JC1 student studying in Hwa Chong Institution. She spends her free time listening to a blend of 80s love songs and heavy metal, and subsequently attempting to master them on her guitar (midnight melodies). Every night, you can find Leia scrambling to appease the Duolingo owl before midnight strikes. Like corn – considered a vegetable, a grain and a fruit all at once – Leia may seem torn between her interests in poetry and the sciences. However, she thinks of it as a great opportunity for her to draw inspiration from both sides of academia, and expand her knowledge. The proud “corn” of the trio, Leia  is very sure of one thing, that is, her hopes for every delegate to grow and do their best to reach for the sun during BYMUN!

Wang Xinyi

Xinyi is a JC1 student in Hwa Chong Institution, who spends most of her free time overthinking and watching 2000s romcoms. Trust her to be your resident pop music connoisseur — for whenever she's not poring over schoolwork, she spends all her time jamming on her piano! To all those who are a little bird-shy, fear not for Xinyi is a certified ornithophobe who is constantly on the alert and keeping a watchful eye on our feathered friends (from a safe distance, of course!) As the “bean” of the group, she works together with her co-chairs to foster a comfortable and positive environment for everyone during council sessions. She hopes that everyone will make the most out of their time here and thoroughly enjoy the days ahead!
