Crisis

The Crisis Committee is a specialised council that will be debating on the topic: China’s Response to the Covid-19 Pandemic. Delegates will have the opportunity to take on the role of a member of the Chinese Communist Party and engage in debate with other delegates. As this is a crisis council, delegates will also have to respond and adapt to updates that will be sent from the Crisis Backroom. Time is money, and in this case, time is life too. Every choice you make will have a real consequence to it, so choose wisely. In this council, delegates will be able to use their creativity to come up with innovative responses and actions within the limits of their Portfolio Powers.

OVERVIEW

China’s Response to the Covid-19 Pandemic is a simulation for delegates to explore the process of handling a crisis in a government setting. There are many different aspects of a crisis that delegates will have to consider to ensure the best possible response. Through this experience, the delegates will have a better understanding of the structure of the government and be able to comprehensively delve into the mechanics of the Chinese Communist Party.

Zheng Yulin

Yulin is a Secondary 4 student from Nanyang Girls’ High School taking Physics, History, Advanced Math and Bicultural Studies Programme. When she’s not buried in study notes or music scores, she’s probably re-organising her to-do lists, watching psychological horror game plays or curating her 20 Pinterest Boards. An artist at heart and an avid reader of Oxford Classics, Yulin’s favourite book is Pride and Prejudice, though she admits she relates more to Darcy than Elizabeth. Like him, she’s composed on the outside and firmly believes that sincerity has to be earned. As an ENTJ-A, Yulin takes pride in her perfectionism and is surprisingly an ambivert who only gets a little bit crazy over her comfort people. Though some say she may be emotionless, she’s actually selectively vulnerable and opens up to her closest friends only. During her free time, Yulin loves cafe hopping and taking photo booths with friends while sipping overpriced matcha lattes. Nonetheless, as her first time chairing the Crisis Committee, Yulin hopes to foster an intellectually rigorous and warm environment where delegates can form everlasting friendships and leave feeling inspired beyond BYMUN 2026.

Yu Mengxuan

Mengxuan, better known as Laoyu by her friends, is a JC1 student from Hwa Chong Institution. As an ESTJ, she's often told she's too emotionless, but she argues that she simply operates on logic and definitely has emotions. An enjoyer of walks, good food, and long car rides, she loves spontaneous romantic activities. Despite her passion for math and physics, she somehow found her way into the MUN circuit in 2024. She is also a dedicated dancer and a Taekwondo black belt! When she has her AirPods on, she’s likely listening to her ultimate favorite artist, TOMORROW X TOGETHER (TXT), who has been her Spotify top artist for an impressive 5 consecutive years. Above all, Mengxuan firmly believes that every delegate, regardless of background, will enjoy their time at BYMUN 2026, learn a tremendous amount, and forge lasting friendships.

Kelly Heather Kueh Murdoch

Mango Macadamia Milkshakes, Marvel Movie Marathons and…Mozerella chocolate? A JC1 student in Hwa Chong Institution, Kelly hops around side-questing and trying new things, living by her YOLO principles and cherishing every breath of life. As an overly active human being who can’t sit still for more than ten minutes in front of her undone homework, she loves watching the 大自然 and spying on interesting fellow humans on her one hour train rides home. (#eastsidebestside) She hopes that all delegates are able to discover their inner passion and spark, similar to her undying love for interesting food combinations (and her love for you!), as well as form long-lasting bonds over the three days of BYMUN and become 志同道合的好朋友 (which also happens to be one of the very few 成语 in her vocabulary bank) who will stay tight till they grow white hairs!

Yang Luoyi

Luoyi is a JC1 student from Hwa Chong Institution. When she’s not breaking down over basic math, she’s probably scouting for the next thrift spot, running from her to-do list to grab another cup of coffee. In her free time, you can find her curating yet again oddly specific Spotify playlists, adding films to her to-watch list, or exporting photos from her camera as the photographer friend. Nonetheless, she hopes her delegates—beginner or not—find Crisis to be a safe space to be bold, both in their speeches and their ideas. See you here!

Hwang Kai Xin Victoria

Victoria is a Year 4 student in NYGH. When not out for lunch with friends or doing a coffee run while walking her dogs or lying on her bed blasting classical music, she is probably scratching her head while studying in her room. As a Y4 triple-science student in Nanyang Girls’ High School, Victoria often gets the question why she joined MUN and to be very honest, she doesn't really know either. However, joining the MUN circuit has been one of the best decisions she has ever made. Serving as a Chair for BYMUN 2026, she would like to encourage all delegates to take this opportunity to step out of their comfort zones and actively engage in debate while also making new friends. See you soon and all the best!
