Singapore Parliament
The Parliament of Singapore is a specialised committee with unique mechanics, being the main body for debates and the creation of legislation. This committee is responsible for millions of livelihoods, with laws shaping the daily lives of Singapore’s people. Without the debate and financial scrutiny conducted by the Parliament, policies would not be fair, goal-orientated, and practical. In this MUN, delegates can take on portfolios of Singapore’s most prominent leaders, from Members of Parliament to union representatives, ensuring equal representation of opinions, ideas, and arguments.
Overview
The topic for this committee is the Question of Balancing Foreign Talent and Local Workers in the Singapore Workforce. In today’s fast-paced society, job displacement, wage suppression, and social incohesion are prominent problems that affect thousands of workers across all ages and sectors. Considering the vast benefits and harms that the increase in hiring foreign workers brings, the Parliament must deliberate how to manage national economic competitiveness with local job security, ensure fair yet beneficial employment processes, and ways to prioritise national policies and sectors. By debating and resolving this issue, delegates can ensure a fair workplace for both Singaporeans and foreigners, while also maintaining global competitiveness and national advancements.

Neu Fong Ee Erica
Erica is currently a JC1 student at Hwa Chong Institution, and is a big fan of Starbucks and Netflix. She is very pleased to be serving as a chairperson at BYMUN 2026, and hopes delegates have a good time!

Karis Lau Yihan
Karis is a JC1 student at Hwa Chong Institution. If you ever step foot into her house, you may find yourself in a “zoo” with a dog, 2 cats and many fishes (and many many plushies). As a green tea addict, you would probably see her holding onto bottles of green tea everyday, or coffee. While this introduction may be a disappointing one, she hopes that all delegates will enjoy themselves at BYMUN 2026 and she can’t wait to meet everyone!

Xu Tianyu
Tianyu is a Secondary 4 student from Nanyang Girls’ High School and is currently taking triple science and advanced math, as well as French as her third language. Known for having odd interests, one of Tianyu’s many hobbies include dancing in the shower, which is the cause for her many bruises and creaking joints. Through BYMUN 2026, she wishes to make new friends with similar interests, and to learn from the varying views of others.

Huang Haiyue
Haiyue is a JC1 student at Hwa Chong Institution. She enjoys admiring cute flowers and plants but is unfortunately allergic to pollen, so her house is full of trees. In her free time, you can probably find her either doomscrolling on Instagram or taking a fat nap. While Haiyue does not know why she is here, she hopes delegates have the time of their lives at BYMUN 2026!
