United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation 

Established in 1946, UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) comprises 194 member states and 12 observer states.  Its main area of focus includes: the right to education, the sharing of technological advancements, freedom to participate in cultural activities, press freedom, including freedom of speech and expression.

 

 

OVERVIEW

Delegates will be tackling the question of The Preservation and Promotion of Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Age of Globalisation. This can be further broken down into analysing the commercial exploitation of intangible cultural heritage as well as its integrated development with the tourism industry. The dais hopes that delegates will glean new insights through council debate.

Tan Jin Yi

Jin Yi is a JC1 student from Hwa Chong Institution who loves all things food. Presently, she is enthralled by avocado bagels and Din Tai Fung’s pineapple cakes. Food is undoubtedly a big part of culture, so it may not be surprising that she’s chairing UNESCO. She also hopes that all delegates will have a blast during BYMUN 2024!

Liang Kah Wei, Kensley

Kensley is a JC1 student from Hwa Chong who enjoys reading and is keen to explore the worldviews constructed by various authors and the disparities in the characters they create. Through participating in this Model United Nations, she hopes that all representatives will enrich their knowledge regarding this topic and use this opportunity to broaden their horizons!

Zhou Ruihan

Ruihan is a Secondary 4 student from Nanyang, who has many interests and hopes to have more time to pursue them. She likes cultural history, especially exploring museums in different parts of the world as it makes her feel as if she’s traveling in time. She hopes to learn from this experience with everyone and enjoy their time in BYMUN!
